Seeing things & not

knowing their context,

though they are in it, &

I could look for it but

they've already fallen away,

sunken, & I don't have

the willpower or the energy

or the range of motion

to chase them downwards,

plunging, but faster than

the speed of falling like a

superhero who can always

fall faster than the would

be victim rescued just

in the expected measure

of time. Trying to stay

afloat & steady I have

to accept that I won't

understand most of what

my eyes will glaze over

with the water right up

against them, not even room

to lift my face so that I can

breathe & touch the crown

of my head to the surface

at the same time. I was not

baptized that way so it would

not be enough to compare

the two, one is a reflex anyway

and the other a precaution.
